Analysis and coverage: Chinese customs delegation visits Egypt to boost agricultural cooperation

As part of the Egyptian state's efforts to boost agricultural exports and open new markets, Dr. Mohamed Al-Mansi, head of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, received a delegation from the Chinese Customs Authority, in implementation of the directives of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, to support the flow of agricultural exports and promote international cooperation.

Strengthening trade relations between Egypt and China

The meeting comes in the context of growing diplomatic relations between Cairo and Beijing, especially after the meeting between the Egyptian and Chinese presidents during the Belt and Road Summit, as the two countries seek to strengthen the economic partnership, especially in the agricultural sector. The head of the Chinese delegation praised the role played by the Egyptian agricultural quarantine, pointing out that Egypt has succeeded in introducing 22 agricultural products to the Chinese market, an achievement that reflects the Chinese side's confidence in the quality of Egyptian products. He also pointed out that 480 Egyptian companies are already registered to export their agricultural products to China.

The importance of the visit and the growing trade exchange

It is remarkable that this is the first foreign visit of the Chinese customs delegation in 2025, reflecting the importance of Egypt as a strategic partner for China, especially with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and China reached $17 billion with a growth rate of 9.9%, which reinforces Egypt's position as a major trade center for China in Africa and the Middle East.

Expanding the list of agricultural exports to China

The Chinese side has welcomed the import of citrus fruits, grapes, mangoes, dates, and pomegranates from Egypt, which are highly competitive in international markets. Egypt's agricultural quarantine is also seeking to include fresh strawberries in the list of products exported to China, which will be discussed during the Chinese delegation's visit tomorrow to a strawberry farm and a citrus packing station.

Analysis and outlook

  • New opportunities: Egypt's success in introducing new agricultural products to China opens the door to expanding exports, supporting the local agricultural economy.

  • Strong competition: The entry of Egyptian products into the Chinese market means direct competition with countries such as Spain and South Africa, which requires maintaining the highest quality standards.

  • Boosting investments: Continued cooperation could open the door to Chinese agricultural investments in Egypt, whether in the areas of agricultural processing or supply chain development.
